Our Engagement Story

It’s been a little over a month since Jacob and I got engaged and I have yet to share the story of our engagement. In all honesty, I think we both blacked out (out of excitement!) for most of the events that followed, so it took me a bit to bring my thoughts and memories together.

Just a little preface…

We love to do outdoorsy things - especially hiking! Ok. Ok. Let’s be real...Jacob is truly the adventurous one and I like to pretend I do “outdoorsy” things when in reality hiking is about as outdoorsy as I get.

When it comes to hiking, we love when we get the opportunity to travel and explore new places. However, prior to getting engaged we hadn’t had much of an opportunity to travel together.

He took a sporadic trip to Denver. I took one to Scottsdale. Between traveling with friends, work and other commitments, our paths just didn’t seem to cross! Sure, technically they crossed, but you know what I mean.

And here’s where the story begins…

When I returned from my Scottsdale trip in early April, Jacob suggested that we plan a hike since we had been slacking on making time to do something fun together.

The plan was to hike Lapham Peak for his birthday in early May. Side note: if you don’t know Jacob, he’s not one for an elaborate birthday celebration. He’s such a relaxed guy and I love that about him.

Little did I know what we would actually be celebrating...

A few days before our hike Jacob’s best friend, Ryan, decided he wanted to join.

Another couple of days pass by and my best friend, Casey, wants to join the hike…

Here’s where things should have started to get obvious for me, but clearly I didn’t pick up the clues. In my defense, it’s not abnormal for the 4 of us to hangout together. We’ve done Packer games, concerts, happy hours, etc.

We all met at Lapham Peak and started our mini adventure. The weather was absolutely terrible, but since it was for Jacob’s birthday, I didn’t try to get out of the hike (good call, Jacob).

Near the end of the hike, Jacob mentioned that his boss hid a geocache somewhere along the hike. Apparently, his boss bet him $100 he couldn’t find it.

So, we’re looking…and we’re looking…

Jacob stumbles upon the “geocache” (turns out the geocache was all a ruse).

He runs over to me. “You should open it.”

I took a glimpse at the “geocache”. BOOM. That’s when I knew. I actually recognized the notepaper that was inside. Ha!

Butterflies, excitement, giddy, total shock…all the feels. All I could muster up in that teary-eyed moment was “stapppp”.

I read the note out loud. My favorite line read this: “You’ve been a lot of things to me. My girlfriend, my roommate, my best friend and now I hope something more…”

Then he got down on one knee. “Will you marry me?”

Naturally, I just shoved my hand in his face (ha!) then he said, "Well, will you?!".

"Yes!"

The surprises didn’t stop there...

Ryan pulled out a bottle of champagne to celebrate (so sneaky hiding it in his backpack!). Jacob surprised me by having a dinner reservation set that night with our parents. At dinner, Casey surprised me with my first “Mrs.” gifts. Last but not least, we finished out the night with some of our closest friends at a lil’ towy bar in Walker’s Point.

Jacob, you amaze me every single day and our engagement day was no exception.

I couldn’t have imagined things any other way.

So, there you have it! The day I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

The day I wish I could relive over and over again.

The day I officially got to call Jacob my fiancé!

The day that I knew I’d be marrying my best friend.
