Two Days in Newport, Rhode Island

To say Newport, Rhode Island is simply charming is an understatement. Sure, the weather wasn’t great the weekend we were there, but everything from the restaurants to the boutiques offered a warm and welcoming feel.

It’s truly a lovable coastal town and the perfect place for a weekend getaway.

We spent the weekend celebrating my cousin and her new hubby’s marriage (yay!), but we made a point to take advantage and celebrate our recent engagement, too!

Whenever we travel we love to check out local brews, so Friday afternoon we stopped at the Wharf Pub. I would definitely recommend this spot! It’s such a cute, quaint bar with an inviting feel that offered a great selection of local craft beers.

When staying seaside I feel like it’s only right to treat yourself to a seafood dinner. Friday night we had dinner at The Mooring. I cannot praise this place enough! Our server was absolutely amazing and put up with our endless questions since it was our first time eating lobster. We had the clam chowder (sooo good), crab cakes, lobster tail and swordfish. Needless to say, everything was delicious.

Side note: I love Jacob for helping me “do it for the gram” with these blog-worthy photos. Ha!

To top off the evening, our server surprised us with key lime pie for dessert to celebrate our engagement. (I told you he was great!)

After dinner we met my family at 22 Bowen’s for drinks. We didn’t spend much time there, but it seems like the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. My cousin and I made a point to capture the most basic engagement photo and I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)

We took full advantage of the time we had before the wedding on Saturday night. That morning we grabbed breakfast from the Coffee Grinder and shopped the local boutiques at Bowen’s Wharf.

The Coffee Grinder is definitely a grab-and-go kind of place, but their patio offers an ideal spot to relax with a morning cup o’ joe while looking out at the harbor. If you are a lover of art, I’d highly recommend stopping at Sheldon Fine Art when shopping the Bowen’s Wharf boutiques. The gallery was absolutely breathtaking!

Saturday afternoon we ventured to the Cliff Walk – a must-see! The 3.5 mile walk takes you along the shoreline to get a glimpse of where the rich and fabulous once lived (and some still do!). You might even discover a surfer or two along the way as well as some pretty incredible sites, including the Forty Steps for a better view of the rocky shoreline.

You can schedule a guided tour of the mansions, too! My favorite was the Rosecliff (where a few scenes from The Great Gatsby were filmed). Something about the gardens and architecture made me feel fancy AF.

Alas, the main event! The Barry wedding took place at the Blithewood Mansion in Bristol, RI. Can you say fairytale?

Amanda and Taylor’s intimate black tie affair was absolutely perfect - an outdoor ceremony followed by drinks, games and hors d'oeuvres on the yard. If you are a lover of elegant outdoor weddings, this is the place to be!

And how gorg are these two? Gotta love some post ceremony grins from ear to ear! :)

P.S. check out my previous blog post here for the scoop on where I got this blue dress for less than $90!

I’m a sucker for cute party favors and theirs were some of my favs - a bike bottle opener, flower seeds and a can koozie. You can find the same bottle opener here as well as similar seeds here and similar koozies here.

The sunset after dinner only added to the romantic ambiance of the night. Champagne was flowing, string lights were twinkling and the live band knew exactly how to keep us all on our feet!

Words can’t express how happy I am for my cousin and her hubby. The love they share is nothing short of perfect and their big day definitely reflected that!

Cheers to the newlyweds! Love you both! xx
